Observatory
|
In the left wing of the building you can find an observatory. There the sky can be watched after prior reservation or at special events. Next to the observatory dome is a roof terrace where additional telescopes can be placed.
Under the dome there is a coudé refractor, that is a curved telescope. It enables a longer focal length in a relatively small observatory. The observer stands unmoved, only the telescope moves. This is realized by guiding the optical path through the hour axis. |
Data of our big refractor: - construction method: Coudé refractor - manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena - construction year: 1962 - focal length: 2250mm - aperture: 150mm The "Halfcircles" help to adjust the coordinates of a sky object so it can be seen in the frame of the ocular. A motoric correction avoids shifting of the object out of view. From 1962 to 1979 the refractor was situated in the observatory of the district Halle/Kanena. The town Halle purchased it at that time for 56,000 DDR Marks. |
